5 Important Maintenance Tips for Pool Owners

Installing a good quality pool cover and hiring swimming pool repair expert in Salt Lake City are just some of the ways to take good care of your pool. But, there is more to having a clean, well-kept pool.

You have to be intentional about regular maintenance and cleaning. Otherwise, you will end up with a pool full of layers of green water, dry leaves, algae build up among others. Learn below important tips on taking good care of your pool.

1. Maintain consistent chemical levels.

This is one of the most important aspects of pool maintenance. When the chemicals are not properly balanced, the water causes skin and eye irritation.

The water is also too murky to look at and not to forget it becoming a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Pool experts recommend that you test your pool water at least once every week to monitor the chemical levels

2. Skim off debris.

You can either use your hand, a hand skimmer or leaf skimmer to remove dead leaves, twigs and any floating debris. This should be done every few days to avoid the floating debris from sinking deep into the pool.

Once they sink, they become hard to remove. Skimming maintains the efficiency of your pool’s circulation system, lowering the amount of chlorine to be added.

3. Maintain the water level.

Just like the chemical levels, water levels should be closely monitored. It is only natural that your pool’s water level will fluctuate either after rainy days or after heavy swimming activities, especially with kids.

If it’s low, you can just use your garden hose pipe to fill it up and if it’s too high, use a submersible pump to drain off the excess water. And, remember to add the chemicals when you fill up the water level.

4. Take care of the filter.

The filter works just like the kidneys in our bodies. It purifies the pool water. Make it a habit to clean the filter basket every week. To do this, turn off the filter, remove the filter cap, lift up the filter basket and empty it.

You can use high-pressure water to remove any stubborn debris. Once a month, clean the whole filter system using the backwashing method.

5. Vacuum the pool and scrub the inner walls.

Once every week, vacuum your pool to keep the water clean. Clean water means fewer chemicals to be added, and that translates to less spending. Aside from vacuuming, the inner walls need to be scrubbed to remove any algae build up as well as calcium deposits.

Take care not to damage the walls. If they are made of plaster-lined concrete, then you can sue a stiff brush otherwise use a soft brush for fiberglass walls. Use a soft brush for the tiles too.

It does not require you to have any special knowledge or pay someone to take you through a couple of classes to learn how to maintain your pool routinely. It’s just simple every day, every week tasks that don’t take up much of your time.

If it’s something complicated, however, it is still prudent to opt for the services offered by a swimming pool repair company in Salt Lake City.
